Installation

  1. 1. Clone the repository

    $ git clone https://github.com/karanb192/cache-tax.git

  2. 2. Start Claude Code with the mod loaded for this session

    $ claude --plugin-dir ./cache-tax

What does cache-tax do?

  • /keepwarm pings the prompt cache during breaks, six hours by default or a set window like /keepwarm 90m
  • Drops a cold send once and shows the estimated cache rewrite cost; resend to continue
  • A row above the prompt shows warm, cold or unknown state, next ping and last ping cost
  • /cache-tax shows the cache estimate, warming window and this session's cold-write tally
  • /cache-tax guard warn shows the price and sends instead of refusing

What do you need?

  • Claude Code 2.1.287 or later (terminal)
  • A one-hour prompt cache; API-key, usage-credit and cloud-provider sessions must set promptCacheTtl to "1h"
  • Claude Code left running during the break
  • Pings cost tokens
